Chapter Fifteen
âOkay, read it back to me one more time, I want to make sure itâs correct.â
âTo the guild council of Opal Bay, Ivor, Azaz, Commander Vinesnap, Hans, Surge, and Verdant. The armies need to march north and be ready for war. Stop outside the fae city of Fontania and inform Queen Sidero of your arrival. She will make final preparations for transport. If I am not with you within two days, then carry on with the attack as normal. I will join the army as soon as we are safely able. Godspeed.â
âAll right, I guess thatâs as good as I can do on such short notice. Get yourself the fastest transport you can and get this delivered to Opal Bay. One more thing, if this falls into the wrong hands, it can be disastrous. If you are ambushed or canât make it to Opal Bay for whatever reason, then destroy it. Burn it or eat it, just donât get caught with it.â
âYes, sir!â
The elf messenger took the letter and ran out of the small jail. He was followed closely by Kit and Kylie as they made their way to the city entrance, where they found Grunt saddled and ready next to another bear with the elf jailor mounted upon it.
They climbed aboard the bear and, as before, came out of the cave and down the hill like a rocket, only this time the bears circled south toward an area unknown to Kit. Grunt was squealing with delight at going on another run. He even spared Kitâs legs from some sharp rocks a few times.
Once they were down the hill and on level ground, the pace evened out a bit, and Kit pulled Grunt alongside the other bear. âSo how come nobody likes Grunt? Aside from running me into the wall, he seems fine.â
âWell, he is the last wild caught bear we have. The rest were bred in captivity. Heâs not too bad, but every once in a while, he will catch a whiff of something and drag you off in the wrong direction. He seems to really like you, thoughâhe hasnât even tried to bite you once. Maybe there is something to that being chased by a dragon thing you mentioned.
âThe fields are just up ahead around this bend. Last one there has to clean the stables!â The elf kicked his bear hard in the ribs and roared ahead.
âWe canât let him beat us, Grunt, lets go!â Kit yelled, kicking Grunt hard in the ribs. Instead of Grunt surging ahead, though, he skidded to a halt and bucked Kit right off his back. Kylie managed to take to the air before Kit landed hard in the dirt. Grunt was angrily snorting and stomping the ground, a murderous look in his eyes.
âWhat the hell was that all about? How hard did you kick him?â
âI donât know, maybe a bit too hard. But heâs a bear, he should be able to take it.â
Grunt was still snorting and stomping the ground, Kit tried to mount him again, but Grunt refused to move.
